Technology Trends from the International Builders Show
This is the third installment of our 2016 new product innovations for the home blog straight from the International Builders Show (IBS). This year there was a large outpouring of more technology that integrates your phone with your home. Clearly that is a major point of emphasis in the coming years. With Bluetooth and Z-wave technology so affordable you are seeing all sorts of innovations coming to the market.
While it is hard to tell which products will stick and which will not, this is a great opportunity to get acquainted with all the latest and greatest. Waukesha homebuilder, David Belman of Belman Homes, brought back the latest technology that jumped out to him at the show. Hear what he has to say:
One of my favorite booths to visit each year is Broan/Nutone, and boy did they bring the innovation this year! Typically known for one or two small innovations, this year they really stepped up.
Let’s start with inside, where they bring a convenient wireless outlet in so that you can retrofit a ceiling light without running a wire to it. Broan/Nutone also unveiled a twist on the door chime with the ability to load your favorite music or fight song.
A new spin on a total home system was also unveiled with the easy to use Elan System. Control your heating, your music, home theater, and more from your I-phone, I-pad, or on your Television.
They didn’t save all their innovation for inside the home! Broan/Nutone added these amazing planter speakers which deliver high quality music in a decorative wireless speaker for outdoors.
If you also want to enjoy the outdoors further, these clever lights conceal a devise which repel bugs and mosquitoes.
Another technology to keep an eye on is NEST, which is powered by Google. They are developing connected new technology at a rapid rate. It’s self programming thermostat connects easily to your mobile devices. The Nest Protect gives you alerts when you need them most and they have several cameras so that you can keep an eye on your home when you are not there.
Speaking of digital thermostats, Lennox also unveiled the iComfort S30 which connects to your phone and works, looks and functions like a tablet.
Please keep in mind with emerging technology that many of these products are great, but often larger technology companies acquire these firms or create competing products that are better integrated with other features. Our advice is to be cautious about investing heavily in these technologies and make sure to consult your trusted home builder, Belman Homes, to make sure you make the best decision for your new home.
