6 New Home Trends You Shouldn’t Ignore in 2018
After touring the largest new home show in the world, the International Builders Show I came away with some new home trends for 2018 that will greatly impact our industry in the coming year. If you are excited about the latest designs and industry trends, then this is the article for you. I broke these down into the 6 New Home Trends You Shouldn’t Ignore.

Last year was the year of the touch less devices and Bluetooth compatible products but 2018 is the year of integration with Alexi and Google Home devices. We are seeing products being created to work directly with these technology advances. You can now talk to your faucet and tell it how much water to dispense or tell your refrigerator to order you more milk. You can program these devices to your own custom settings as well. Think about walking up to your sink with an infant in your arms and saying “Alexa, pour 8 oz. of water”, and your cup is filled without setting down the baby! Amazing!
French or satin gold
One of the hot new colors working its way into faucets, light fixtures, and hardware is brushed gold. While polished brass died a death in the 90’s polished gold is working its way into residential products. If paired with the right colors this finish can be amazing. Especially if used with moody colors like dark blues and deep greys. It’s not for everyone but it is also not going away anytime soon.\
Multifunction shower heads
Boring single function shower heads are out. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on this trend either. There is a plethora of inexpensive multi function shower heads available. There are so many great options out there for under $300. The Delta In2ition is a standard top shower with a convenient pull out hand shower. The Hydro-rain 2 in 1 faucet allows you to take a normal shower or switch to an overhead spray. Or for a first floor bathroom try the Sidekick. It allows you to add components to your shower to wash your baby, then give your dog a shampoo treatment, and then clean your shower walls off with a quick swap. Talk about convenience!
Ordinary to Extraordinary-
Shower doors have long just sort of been there. You know clear glass or perhaps a smoke glass and nobody really ever though much about them. No we are seeing lots of patterned shower doors and boy are they impressive. They can make the shower become the centerpiece in the bathroom and can incorporate many different styles and patterns to help create that “wow” bathroom.
Light it up!
With the availability and affordability of LED lighting, we are seeing it pop up in all sorts of products to make our lives easier. From custom closet systems, to insides of drawers, to outlines of mirrors LED lights are everywhere and I can’t get enough of them. You can make those dark bathrooms or closets a thing of the past. Plus they are very energy efficient and since they don’t produce a lot of heat they can be added almost anywhere.

In my 5 Hottest Home Trends article, I alluded to 2018 as the year of the appliances and they have so many great new offerings out there that there is literally an appliance for just about any of your favorite things. From coffee to pizza, to clothes, to beer you can get a high end built in appliance to serve it to you in the best way possible.
