Building Awards

Belman Homes’  goal is to be an industry leader in building the finest custom homes. We have worked hard to become one of the premier building companies in Wisconsin. Belman Homes is also highly involved in the building industry and the community. We have been very active in the Metropolitan Builders Association helping with Arbitration, Developers council, single-family homebuilders council, green council, Board of Directors and in other areas. In fact, Don Belman was past president of the Metropolitan Builders Association.  David Belman currently serves as a Board of Director on both the Metropolitan Builders Association and the Wisconsin Builders Association.

Belman Homes is proud to be actively involved with the Waukesha community. We have partnered with Waukesha School District and their Building Trades program, which teaches and gives students a hands on approach to building a new home. Each year, we invite WCTC students on a tour of our facility and home to show how a homebuilder operates. We don’t like to blow our own horns but here you can see some of the recognition we have been fortunate to receive.

Belman Set For Expo Seminar Stage!

Waukesha and Milwaukee Area Home Builder

Those attending Don Belman’s “How to Select a Builder” seminar presentation this weekend at the annual Home Expo Show may be in for quite a surprise -homework. Make that “home” work.

“That last thing people want to do is go to a seminar and have someone tell them they have to do homework to make the process work,” said Don, President of Don Belman Homes in Waukesha. “Basically, the onus is really on the shoulders of the consumer to do the homework. The consumers have to harness themselves with the burden of investigation and research of the builder.”

To get his “seminar” class off on the right foot, Don said he offers a variety of tips to potential home builders, such as starting with a visit to a financial officer. This way, the cart (the house) doesn’t get ahead of the horse (the money). Once the budget is established, the time is right to select an area to reside in. From there, Don says, take weekend drives to existing developments to gather more information. While often times the material can be dry and unexciting, Don stresses that all the paperwork and literature must be read -and understood. He also suggests obtaining a current list of the builder’s buyers and specific references – and calling them. Better yet, knock on the door and ask the homeowner what type of experience they had with the builder.

And if there’s just one message that Don would like to get out, it would be… “Ask a lot of questions,” Don said. “I would encourage everyone to not be afraid to ask questions. I’ll have 30 years in this business this March and frankly, I’m still asking a lot of questions.” Don strongly believes that people can predict the type of building experience they will encounter, simply by the amount of time and effort put into selecting a builder. “It’s not rocket science or genius-level material,” he added. “Buyers have to get out there, put their nose to the wheel, and do it.” Don Belman’s seminars are at the Better Living Theater at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 on Sunday, January 10th. The 10th annual Home Builders Expo runs January 7-10 at the new Midwest Express Center in downtown Milwaukee. For more information, contact Don Belman Homes at 262-544-4648

Don Belman, Don Belman Homes, was the proud recipient of the esteemed Builder of the Year Award for 1996. Don was presented with the coveted trophy at the annual MBA Installation Dinner on Thursday, November 26th.

The Builder of the Year Award has been given to one selected builder each year since 1953, and is the preeminent form of recognition that can be awarded to a builder member of the MBA. The Award was established to recognize those members who conduct themselves and their business according to the highest ethical standards and who have served the Association, its members, the building industry, and the greater community.

A member since 1985, Don’s most visible position in the MBA has been his role as president in 1995. Before he acquired that title, Don was very active behind the scenes in the Single Family Builders Council, the Parade of Homes Site Selection Committee and the New Building Committee. He has served as chairman of the Construction Arbitration Board, chairman of the Sales & Marketing Council and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1990. The MBA has benefited from Don’s influence and leadership. We are proud to honor him with the award of 1996 Builder of the Year.

On August 14th, 1997, the Metropolitan Builders Association hosted the 1997 Standard of Excellence Awards. Builders, developers, and remodelers from the metropolitan area gathered to recognize outstanding achievement in the building industry. Dan Belman from Don Belman Homes was awarded The Sales Manager of the Year Award. Dan has averaged over $5 million in sales for over ten years.

This year, Dan helped manage the sales de partment, which accumulated over $15 million in sales. Dan is responsible for training salespeople, advertising and marketing. Dan willingly takes the time to do all of these things for Don Belman Homes when he easily could focus just on the bottom line or how many sales he gets. He truly is a “team player.” David Belman, a home consultant for Don Belman Homes, was awarded the Salesman of the Year Award.

In his first year of sales, David sold over $3 million of new homes. In his second year, he doubled his sales to over $6 million a year. What makes his sales volume remarkable is that he is in his senior year at Carroll College, where he has a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and thus maintained his four-year college scholarship. David is majoring in Business Administration and will graduate next spring with honors. He diligently works seven days a week and many late nights helping clients.

When Don Belman and his sons, David and Dan attended the recent Metropolitan Builder’s Association award banquet, they needed a small pickup truck to haul home all their awards. Don, who was still glowing from the Builder of the Year award he won in 1996, watched as David, 21, received the New Home Salesperson of the Year Award, with $6 million in sales, and as Dan, 31, received the Sales Manager of the Year Award.

“Well, we were all surprised and I was pretty proud,” said Don, 59. “It was really something else to see them walk up there and get the awards.” The annual awards are given in numerous categories but the main qualities shared by all of the award recipients are high standards of performance and productivity. The Belmans all work out of the main office of Don Belman Realty, on Sunset Drive in Waukesha, where Don has been operating his building and real estate business since 1981. Don, who began his career selling real estate in the 1970s, said he always hoped his Sons would follow him into the family business, but he never pushed. “1 thought about it, especially when I was first starting out,” he said. “But I let them make their own decisions.”

After he started his own real estate company, Don made his first development acquisition in 1973 and started down the trail that eventually led him to do his own construction and development work. “When the market changed I was able to work with all the best carpenters and masons and everyone else, and I really learned about quality work, which is very important to us,” he said. Although Don has always loved his work, Dan wasn’t as eager to get involved. Dan thought the real estate and building business might be too boring for him, so he started out working for a lighting company where he ended up working with builders.
